When you’re out in the sticks somewhere, you might get to a place where there’s no signal. How will you ever find your way home (or to the next party) without your trusty Google Maps app?
Well, with a little foresight, you can make sure Google Maps continues to be useful, even when you’re not in cellular data range.
Here’s how to use Google Maps offline to make sure you never get lost again when your smartphone goes offline.
Note: This tip will work with Android and iOS versions of Google Maps.
First up, you’ll want to open Google Maps when you have a good data connection or Wi-Fi, before you head off into the boonies.
In the search field, where you usually dictate or type in your destination address, simply type “ok Maps” to start the process.

You’ll get a screen that asks if you want to download the area. Tap on the Download button, then give your area a name. Google Maps will give you a helpful hint if you don’t know what to name it.

Once you hit OK to confirm the name, your iPhone or Android phone will download the area you’ve named. Google Maps will show the download progress with a percentage. Once it’s done, you’re good to go; head off into the wilderness with your saved digital map. You can zoom in and out, ask for directions, and anything else you’d do with the online version of Google Maps.
Now you’ve got a way to make sure you’re always able to get to where you want to go with Google Maps, even if you end up somewhere far away without any data service.

Welcome to image alignment! The best way to demonstrate the ebb and flow of the various image positioning options is to nestle them snuggly among an ocean of words. Grab a paddle and let’s get started.
On the topic of alignment, it should be noted that users can choose from the options of None, Left, Right, and Center. In addition, they also get the options of Thumbnail, Medium, Large & Fullsize.
The image above happens to be centered.

And now we’re going to shift things to the right align. Again, there should be plenty of room above, below, and to the left of the image. Just look at him there… Hey guy! Way to rock that right side. I don’t care what the left aligned image says, you look great. Don’t let anyone else tell you differently.
In just a bit here, you should see the text start to wrap below the right aligned image and settle in nicely. There should still be plenty of room and everything should be sitting pretty. Yeah… Just like that. It never felt so good to be right.
And just when you thought we were done, we’re going to do them all over again with captions!

Tras tantos años contándoos todo tipo de noticias y curiosidades acerca de Apple, no habíamos caído en la cuenta de que hasta ahora nunca habíamos explicado la historia de su famoso logotipo de la manzana mordida. Hoy en día en todo un símbolo cultural, pero no siempre ha sido así. De hecho, el primer logo de Apple apenas se utilizó un año. En este artículos os vamos a contar de dónde viene el logo actual, y por qué fases ha pasado en los 40 años de vida que Apple está a punto de cumplir (será el próximo día 1 de Abril).
El logo multicolor que hay encima de estas líneas, por ejemplo, no tiene nada que ver con ningún colectivo social ni con la orientación sexual de Tim Cook, aunque muchos podrían pensar algo así. Es tan colorido por una razón muy simple; Steve Jobs quería humanizar los ordenadores, hacerlos más divertidos y menos amenazadores para los profanos, y hacer que el logo tuviera varios colores fue una manera de ofrecer una imagen mucho más divertida y desenfadada a su marca. Además, Apple fabricaba ordenadores que podrían representar varios colores en pantalla. Esto nos puede parecer increíble, pero estamos hablando de una época en la que muchos aún utilizaban ordenadores conectados a monitores monocromos o de fósforo verde. Sin embargo, este logo no fue el primero. El primer logo de Apple fue dibujado por Ronald Wayne, el tercer fundador de la empresa junto a Steve Jobs y a Steve Wozniak. Este era su aspecto;
Como vemos, se trata de Isaac Newton leyendo bajo un manzano, a punto de ser golpeado por una manzana que parece estar a punto de caer. Este logo fue finalmente rechazado por Jobs tras un año en uso, debido a la dificultad que tenía para ser reproducido de manera barata o para ser identificado cuando era muy pequeño. En él, si se imprimía lo suficientemente grande, podíamos leer esta inscripción:

Jobs encargó entonces a la agencia creativa Regis McKenna que les diseñaran un nuevo logo. El encargado dentro de esa agencia fue Rob Janoff, que compró muchas manzanas de varios tipos para comprobar sus formas y cómo podrían inspirarle para diseñar algo basado en ellas. Así fue como nació el ahora mítico logo de la manzana mordida, a una sola tinta, que todos tenemos en la parte trasera de nuestro iPhone. ¿La razón del mordisco? – muy sencilla. No tiene nada que ver con Adán y Eva, ni con las tentaciones. Simplemente hace que todo el mundo reconozca una manzana en esa silueta. De lo contrario, muchos pensaban que se podría tratar de otra fruta. Rob es este señor, y aún trabaja para su propia agencia en Chicago. Debe ser espectacular ver tu logo reproducido hasta la saciedad en cientos de millones de smartphones y ordenadores en todo el mundo. En su página web, nos muestra la evolución que ha seguido el logo de Apple hasta la actualidad;
Aunque en la imagen diga que el logotipo actual es el cromado, la verdad es que Apple ha vuelto al de 1998, la versión monocroma que simplemente muestra el contorno a una tinta, o plateado como es el caso de la parte trasera del iPhone. Generalmente se utiliza el color gris, pero en realidad Apple aplica multitud de colores a su logo. De hecho, las tarjetas de visita de todos los empleados de Apple se imprimen en muchos colores… cada vez que recibes una, te pueden tocar con el logo de Apple impreso en un color diferente. Es sólo otra curiosidad más y no deja de ser interesante que Apple sigue utilizando muchos colores en su logo, aunque de otra manera.

Hoy hubiese cumplido Steve Jobs 61 años. Como makero convencido, vaya aquí mi tributo y mi recuerdo con una de sus frases lapidarias.
¿Qué significa la “i” que Apple pone delante de algunos productos? Si tengo que ser sincero, desde una conversación que tuve con un familiar, no se cómo llegamos a la conclusión de que esa “i” significaba Innovación, pero no podíamos estar más equivocados. Las historias que hay detrás de los nombres que elige Apple para sus productos no son tan simples y ese famoso prefijo no tiene un sólo significado, si no varios.
La primera vez que vimos la famosa “i” delante del nombre de un producto de Apple fue en 1998, cuando Steve Jobs presentó el primer iMac. Posteriormente, también lo vimos en el iPod, el iPhone y el iPad, así como en algunos programas de la compañía como iMovie, iPhoto (descontinuado) o iDVD. También ha estado muy extendida la creencia de que el prefijo tenía algo que ver con Internet, pero sólo tenemos que echar la vista atrás para encontrar su verdadero significado.
Aunque tiene la misma sangre que el Macintosh, vamos a enfocarlo para el uso número uno que los consumidores nos dirán para qué quieren un ordenador, que es para acceder a Internet — simple y rápidamente. Y ese ese el objetivo de este producto.
“i” también significa otras cosas para nosotros. Somos una compañía de ordenadores personales y, aunque este producto ha nacido para la red, también es un producto individual. También lo vamos a enfocar a la enseñanza. Quieren comprar eso. Y es perfecto para la mayoría de cosas que hacen en al enseñanza.
Como podéis ver en la imagen que acompañó a las palabras anteriores, la “i” también significa:
El Apple TV ya no incluye el prefijo que se presentó por primera vez en 1998 con el primer iMac y los últimos productos, como Apple Pay, el Apple Watch o Apple Music, también han visto como se les caía la famosa “i”. La duda ahora es: ¿Volveremos a ver un nuevo iProducto en el futuro?
